FAQs

Getting Started

How old does my student need to be to enroll?

Washington requires students to be at least 15 by the first day of the class they're enrolling in. Our class calendar shows exactly which cohorts your student qualifies for based on their birthdate.

How do I enroll my student?

Choose a class from our schedule and complete registration online. For students under 18, you'll also get a policy form by email that includes parental consent. That needs to be completed before the first behind the wheel drive.

What's included in the $499?

Five weeks of live classroom instruction over Zoom (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings) plus five behind the wheel sessions with a certified instructor.

Program Format & Schedule

How long is the program?

Five weeks. Classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:15 PM, live over Zoom. No driving to a classroom for the instructional part.

Is the classroom instruction online?

Yes, all classroom sessions are live over Zoom. Nothing is prerecorded.

What if my student misses a Zoom class?

Students can join a later class, the same one they missed.

How many students are in each class?

Each class is capped at 30 students.

Behind the Wheel Training

How many driving sessions are included?

Five one hour sessions with a certified instructor.

Where do driving sessions start?

All drives start at the classroom. Instructors don't do home pickups or offsite meeting points.

Do we pick our instructor?

No. You'll be paired with whoever is available. Students can keep the same instructor all five weeks or mix it up, either works fine.

When do we book driving sessions?

After enrolling you'll get a link to book times. Most students book one to two weeks at a time, and sessions are typically finished within the five week class window.

Does my student need a permit before their first drive?

Yes. They need a Washington learner's permit already and need to bring it to every drive. Showing up without it counts as a missed drive and the fee applies.

How many total hours of behind the wheel training does the program include?

Washington requires 5 hours of behind the wheel instruction for a state approved course. We offer 5 one hour sessions plus one hour observation and DriverZED spread across the classes to meet the state requirement.

Cancellations & Fees

What if we need to reschedule a driving session?

Excused reschedules are fine with advance notice. For same day illness, let us know within 24 hours. Weather cancellations are handled automatically, Legacy reschedules the drive for you.

What counts as a missed drive?

A no show, or showing up without a permit.

Is there a fee for a missed drive?

Yes, $30, outlined in the policy form signed at registration.

Can I get a refund if my student needs to drop the class?

We will work with students who may have a hardship in attending classes, and find ways to reschedule. Once students start the class, no refunds are given.

Parents & Minors

Is there a consent form for students under 18?

Yes, sent by email after registration, and it covers the waiver for behind the wheel drives.

Can a parent sit in on the Zoom classes?

Yes, even parents benefit from additional instruction on driving.
